In composition “Cirque du Soleil” I wanted to connect the typical Balkan 7/8 meter with the non typical Balkan instruments such as marimba that originates from Africa and vibraphone originally made in US in the 20th century.
My idea was also to include the complex meters into the famous Cirque du Soleil show, because even though they are a Canadian entertainment company, each show is a synthesis of circus styles from around the world with the continuous live music.
The meter 7/8 is very well suited to the form of a circus which is a performance that include clowns, acrobats, trained animals, musicians, dancers, magicians, jugglers. In this entertainment show the accent is on fun, play, illusion and dance. Therefore, the meter 7/8 represents an adequate music background.
